Two years ago, Brussels-based artist Adja presented her first EP IRONEYE, with the single Told You So, which now totals more than 1.8 million streams. Her long-awaited first album, Golden Retrieve Her, will be released (Sdban Ultra) in spring 2025, an event she will celebrate with a sold-out concert on May 9 at the Ancienne Belgique. The album, written with her longtime collaborator and guitarist Alexis Nootens, revolves around an interweaving of eleven stories that examine the impact of capitalist society on our most intimate moments. Adja combines her talents as a singer, stage director and performer, and uses her voice and narrative qualities to address deep themes with a unique generosity and humor.
With a background in theatre and jazz, and driven by a passion for R&B, soul and gospel, Adja has developed a warm, rich and organic musical style. She draws inspiration from D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, Hiatus Kaiyote and Lauryn Hill. Her music has a delicate power and creates a rich and complex atmosphere.
Last spring, she released her first album, Golden Retrieve Her. She worked with producer Adam Scrimshire. These two leading figures helped her deepen her own production skills.
The album’s first single, A Moment (December 2024), humorously explores the desire to relax for a moment in a restless world, while her second single, Sucking on My Empathies, challenges the audience with an explosion of energy. With Golden Retrieve Her, Adja shows that she not only has a powerful voice, but that she is also a force of nature who fuses her diverse talents into passionate live shows.
